well, if i decide to visit this echo chamber in future, i may give forth on my opinion of professional sports, which will no doubt piss loads of people off, in which case i'll be a 'winner', but to answer your question:

from my birth up until 1987/88ish, i was a pretty big NY Mets fan, and of course 1986 was mind-bogglingly glorious for me, but then along came the Harrelson/Torberg years, which were preceded by the post-86 Davey Johnson years during which time the upper management/owners of the Mets made decisions that left me in serious doubt that there was any intelligence in the organization; anyway, it didn't matter, toward the late '80s / early '90s i dropped out of paying attention to baseball (about the same time i dropped out of paying attention to the GD), i was done with it, and had moved on to other interests

several years later along came Torre and shook up the world of baseball with the Yankees, and i was back in the game so to speak, but the past few years i find myself getting less and less interested, it's just a bunch of over-payed morons prancing about on a field; yay

and apart from the action taking place in the political arena, which admittedly has some of the most laughable games ever by some of the silliest people ever wearing some of the stupidest costumes ever, i follow no other sport and never have, which means i probably won't have much to contribute to this your new forum, but you know me, i'll probably chime in a time or two to shake things up...

i have a pretty good idea of what your opinions might be on pro sports, and there will be no argument from this corner on those opinions. i probably share some similar opinions, however i try not to let it get in the way of my enjoyment of pro sports. i can't simply take a break like you did. except from the nba. i don't miss it at all really, although i still watch the postseason it used to be a respectable sport. watching mj on the bulls, that was fucking exciting! i could give a shit about most of the players in the league today, except for dirk nowitzki.

1998 - 2000 was a very exciting time to be following the mets, not just the yankees. mets pitcher al leiter happens to be my 2nd cousin, which is part of the reason for me being a mets fan. i don't see this forum being to successful, but your chime-ins are certainly welcome.

Still carry fond memories of when my sixth grade social studies teacher brought in a TV so we could watch the Mets win the 1969 series.

that's actually pretty cool your teacher doing that, i was too young for the '69 WS; if that were done today of course, there'd be lawsuits, protests, teachers fired, etc.

I had a woman middle school teacher who made us watch the Yessongs concert video. I enjoyed it, but my school was predominately black.

haha, pretty funny mental image that evokes. i can only imagine the general reaction. that's akin to playing a snoop doggy dogg album to a crowd at an opera house.
